Can there be a button or layer which hides shop names on roadworks.org ?
For the purpose of making it easier on the eye and easier to plot road closures. Alternatively, could the roads be made to stand out more ?
This is functionality of the google map and must be consistent for all users. we have reviewed with a broad user base and it is generally favoured to keep these names enabled.
I found a solution to my problem.
Firstly, the not being able to see the road outlines. I have discovered that, of the three displays I use, both of my Dell monitors aren't displaying high enough contrast to enable me to see the road boundaries and such. I have tried adjusting one of them but can't improve the display much. I now have a post in to our IT Dept to see if they can sort my displays out.
Having all Google's shop name tags or whatever they are called only made the problem worse.
Anyway, I no longer need to worry about my Displays and the Shops tags issue. I found the solution to be to go to 'What's on this map' (top left). At the bottom of this menu is 'Customise my map'. Under 'Base Map' I changed the option from 'Road' to 'OpenStreetMap'.
This appears to have corrected the problem. I can now see the roads more clearly and, in town centres, the plethora of Shop tags are no longer getting in the way.
