How about making railways and railway stations just a little less invisible on the maps? I know this is all about roads and disruptions, but stations can be useful reference points for drivers, and maybe also target destinations. The lines themselves can give a clue in rural areas like East Sussex that there are level crossings dotted about.
Example: checking the route toward Stonegate station in East Sussex, I can find it only because I know exactly where it is and I can just about see the railway line passing through it.
